The second phase of fundraising

The second phase of the fundraising for St. John’s University of Tanzania will take place in Dodoma on February 10, 2007 at the university site.  The guest of honour will be the President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.  Many government officials will also be in attendance.

The Rev John Daudi Lupaa has been elected to be the second Bishop of the Diocese of Rift Valley. The election took place on Thursday 24th August 2006 in the Cathedral of All Souls, in Manyoni in the Singida Region.

Bishop's elected for new Diocese of Lweru

The Rev. Jackton Lugumira (54) has been chosen to be the Bishop Elect of the Proposed Diocese of Lweru which is being carved out of the Diocese of Kagera within the Anglican Church of Tanzania.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of the Rt. Revd. Douglas Toto, Bishop of Zanzibar on 9th February, 2006.  We are deeply grateful for his ministry and confidently commend him to our heavenly Father.

New Bishop elected in the Diocese of Tabora

The Diocese of Tabora has now chosen a New Bishop; he is Rt. Revd. Sadock Makaya. The election  was held on 6th April 2005. The new Bishop was consecrated on July 17th, 2005. Rt Revd. Sadock Makaya was the Assistant Bishop, in the Diocese of Western Tanganyika.

Fund Raising Charity Walk

This charity walk which was organized by CTP, took place around Dodoma on the 6th of February, 2005 from DCT Anglican Cathedral at 7:15 am and ended at CCT- Conference and Training Center Dodoma. The Guest of Honor at the Charity Walk was the Minister of Energy and Minerals, Hon. Daniel Ndhira Yona (MP). A total amount of Tshs.20,000,000 equivalent to US$20,000 was raised (This amount includes pledges and cash received in hand).

The Main Objectives:

To raise funds for the construction of a CTP Center in Dodoma Township. This Center will be used for strengthening the CTP's ability to publish and distribute Christian Literature and other books which teach how to combat HIV/AIDS.

Passing away of the father of Dr. R. Mwita Akiri

The Anglican Church of Tanzania regrets to inform you of the passing away of the father of Dr. R. Mwita Akiri (the General Secretary) at the Missionary Hospital, Musoma on the morning of 4 February 2007. 

Please continue to pray for the General Secretary, the family, and the Church in Tanzania for the loss.

On November 2nd the Provincial Standing Committee met at Mtumba Rural Training Center to discuss development policy issues concerning starting the ACT Development Bank and other matters of concern of the National church.

On October 28th, Joanne Chaytor, Administrative Assistant to the General Secretary – Partnerships, a volunteer from the Anglican Church of Canada, married Jacob Simfukwe, of Dar es Salaam at St. Alban’s Cathedral, Dar es Salaam.

Consecration of the first Bishop for the  new Diocese of Lweru

The Consecration of the Bishop of the new Diocese of Lweru Rt Revd Jacton Muta Lugumira took place in a service held at Holy Trinity Church, Bukoba on Sunday 20th August

 

20th - 22nd October, 2004, Bishops and Provincial Standing Committee meet at Mtumba

Our bishops met at Mtumba Rural Women's Training Centre for three days.  For two days they met as the House of Bishops and on the third day they were joined by other members of the Provincial Standing Committee.  During the meetings the bishops and other delegates approved changes to the Constitution of the Anglican Church of Tanzania and gave their approval to the plans for starting an Anglican University in Tanzania.  The meeting was timely for discussion of the Windsor Report on the Anglican Communion.

An innovative feature of this meeting was the use of Information Technology for presentations and preparation of reports.
