The commitment of the college is to
train men and women for pastoral ministry in order to get them properly
equipped with proper tools of the trade for carrying on the work of
spreading the good news to all God’s people.
HISTORY
St Mark’s Theological College was founded in 1969 to satisfy the needs of
having such an institution in the Province above Bible Schools.
The land
on which St. Mark’s stands was a camp for freed women slaves from Zanzibar
after the fall of that ignoble trade. St. Mark’s history, therefore, stretches
for more than one hundred years.
In fulfilling its mission, St. Mark’s Theological College, which is
essentially an institution of Anglican traditions, has trained scores of
Anglican Church personnel from within the four corners of Tanzania, as well
as many others of different denominations from outside the country.
LOCATION
St. Mark’s Theological College is situated in the centre of the sprawling
city of Dar es Salaam, in an exclusive area of Ilala District known as
Buguruni Malapa, behind the diocesan women's hostel.
COLLEGE
STAFF
Lecturers are mainly seasoned, well qualified Tanzanians. They are usually
made available to the college by their dioceses.
STUDENTS
Students are selected, and sponsored by their dioceses. Students come from
among passers of qualifying examinations. The college has both resident
and day students. Married students are allowed to bring their families
from the second year of their courses. Students’ wives take a special two
year course at the college which is tailored to make them able leaders
behind their husbands in their careers.
COURSES
The duration of courses is three years. The
same subjects are taught in diploma and certificate courses. The medium of
instruction is English for the diploma and Kiswahili for the certificate
course.
